That’s a great question because it can be very tricky sometimes. After all, there are 206 bones in the human body.
However, some of them have very distinctive features. Think about your thigh bone and your arm bone. They clearly are supposed to fit into a joint. This is where your hip and shoulder bones play a role. Together, they form what is called a ball-and-socket joint.
Understanding what the bones do for people in terms of moving around tells me what kind of bone should fit where in the body. And after 8 years of studying them, I have learned a lot about where they should fit!
