I live in Southampton, in Southern England, but I grew up in the East of England. I love exploring and the outdoors. I’ve even got into playing Pokemon Go with my partner as it gets me walking for miles and exploring! After school I went to university to learn geography. I am now studying for a Masters in Coastal Science and Engineering!

I work in an exciting area of Science where I am mostly interested in how stormy weather can cause our lovely beaches to change and sometimes disappear!
I am part of a team of ‘Coastal Scientists’ who visit lots of different beaches and we use different bits of equipment to see what happens when storm waves arrive at the beach! I have added some pictures of the different equipment that we use, I like it when people guess what they are for!
We can spot a pattern when we measure a big storm, that our beach loses sand! When it’s nice weather and the sea is calm and lovely, our beaches build up, so people can build sand castles on holiday!
My job is important because beaches protect people who live at the seaside from storms and flooding which we get every year in England. We need to know if the protection isn’t enough and whether we need to build something to stop flooding!

My Typical Day:
Some days I’m in the office, other days I’m at the beach!!!

If we are at the beach, we take our equipment and collect information. We then go back to the office and look at in more detail on a computer.
We have been collecting information for 10 years now, so we can look for patterns. We can tell if a beach has changed overnight, in a week, after a storm, over the winter or whether it is changing over a long time.
It is nice to have a job where we are sometimes indoors and sometimes outdoors in the fresh air!
