      Great question!

He started out by exploring and observing, he identified a lot of different species then he started noticing patterns in what he was seeing. Then he spent a long long time doing tests and putting his ideas together before he finally published his work.

      Sophie’s right!

Also, did you know that Darwin was not alone on his ship, the ‘Beagle’? He had a whole team of people working with him and knew things about the ocean, plants, volcanos, soil, and animal biology. Darwin was able to understand the process of evolution with all of their help. This is because animals have evolved to their unique environments – they do not just evolve by themselves! Those other scientists were really important when Darwin was developing his ideas, as they taught him all about the habitats around him!

      Michael 🙂
