Yes he is like the father of modern biology! He’s like David Attenborough from 100 years ago. I have tried to read his book ‘On the origin of species’ but its a bit hard because its so old and written with quite different language to today. But I have enjoyed learning about his ideas.

      Hi @Professor Briggs!

YES! I think Charles Darwin is very cool!
He made me really like science, and I love his ‘theory of evolution’. It has made me understand about people and animals and he was very clever to realise how people and animals evolve to live.

He found out about the ‘theory of evolution’ whilst in a place called the Galapagos Islands- off the coast of Ecuador- and I went to Ecuador when I was just finishing my GCSE’s. In the Galapogos Islands he spotted a pattern that the birds had different beak shapes on different islands. The birds had evolved over a long time, to survive the different conditions on each of the islands. For examle some islands only had big hard seeds for the birds to eat, so only the birds with big beaks survived. I think he is really clever to have spotted that pattern.

      Hi @Professor Briggs!

Like Sophie and Lauren, I am also a fan of Charles Darwin. He figured out a lot of gaps in our knowledge of how life came to be and how life evolves to be stronger and better at survival over time. At first, many scientists (and many people nowadays too) didn’t believe his theories, but the work of scientists to this very day continues to reveal secrets about evolution that agree with his ideas.

      Hello!

Charles Darwin is pretty much a hero of any scientist – he was able to teach everyone so much about animals and biology… both subjects I really love.

If you like Charles Darwin, I definitely would recommend watching David Attenborough’s documentaries, as Sophie mentioned. He has a new one out now called ‘Planet Earth 2’ on BBC – check it out!

There’s also a lot of books by Richard Dawkins who builds on Darwin’s ideas and explains how animals work in a very easily understandable way!

      Michael 🙂
