Do you mean you are always curious about people? Pay attention to what you are interested in as it may lead you to a great job that you love, that’s what happened to us scientists! With people I guess you have to be careful because sometimes if people get offended they might not want to share their details with you, but as long as you ask the right questions in the right way (which you may have to learn from trail and error) you should get somewhere!
If you’re having a hard time still with your problem – maybe that is okay too! There are plenty of people online, so if following Sophie and Lauren’s advice doesn’t work out, don’t worry too much about it. You will get the chance to meet lots of people as you grow older. 🙂
Thanks! Do you mean like ask the questions like your name in real life or stuff? I didn’t really understand what you said. Also, how is asking for names and ages bad?
And, I just really want to meet the people I play with (online) in real life. When I asked someone where they live (I was only 9 then), she didn’t give me a second chance. Now, I’m 10. And when I was visited by a policewoman at school, she said that at the age of 10, you understand the difference between right and wrong.
OK well if you are speaking to people online, then how do you know if you can trust them? That’s a question you have to ask yourself every time you speak to someone online. On this site people are probably trustworthy because everything is being moderated by the I’m a Scientist crew and your school. On other sites how do you know if people are telling the truth about their names and ages when you can’t see them? You shouldn’t share any personal details with someone you don’t trust. Equally, if you ask someone else for personal details, they might not want to tell you because how can they know they can trust you? So its not necessarily bad to ask personal questions like that, but people might not want to tell you the answers for valid reasons around trust. Because we are polite, people may not like being asked questions they don’t want to answer like that.
If you are ever confused about a conversation you have online you should speak to an adult that you trust about it.
Good luck in the pursuit of knowledge and try asking people questions in real life as well as online! They might be more willing to share their details then 🙂
I agree with Sophie. It is difficult to know who you are really talking to on the Internet. We are scientists who want to explain things to 10 year olds like you and this website and everything I write is checked by a group of people so they can check if what I am saying is okay. Most other places on the Internet do not have that and you don’t know if you are speaking to a 10 year old or a 40 year old! That is why you shouldn’t tell anyone about yourself even if you might want to!
Do you know anyone at school who plays the same game online? Sometimes there is a club at school. These are the best places and the most safe. When I was your age I wasn’t able to go online!
If people ask you questions then you don’t have to answer them! Same goes if you ask them. They are trying to be safe too
Hey! I would think that if they have said no, that they might say no again. People don’t like to give out personal details because they don’t have to! It might feel that it isn’t very kind, but they don’t have to tell you. They might tell you a lie about their details and you don’t know if it is true.
You might want to ask your favourite teacher about this question, as they know a lot more about it than us scientists!
You have asked some really good science questions!

Thanks! That does help, but how do I get someone to give me another chance after I’ve already asked them for their detail?
