This is a fantastic question elise.sweepy123! You’re right, rats can carry diseases, but there are other animals out there that do too. One important example are ticks. Ticks can carry lots of parasites and germs, and because they feed on blood, they can spread these to an animal when they bite and feed on it. They can spread diseases like Lyme’s Disease, which can make people and pets very ill, and can be difficult to treat. Another very good example is the mosquito, which also feeds on blood, and because it can fly around and bite lots of different people and animals, it can spread any disease it is carrying very easily and quickly. Mosquitos can spread the malaria parasite and the dengue virus. Every year around the world, more than 500 million people become ill with malaria! This shows that even small insects can carry very serious diseases!
