Hi Drfrazzle101! This is a great question! I did once get an infection from a cow that I was treating on a farm. There is a little fungal skin parasite called Microsporum that is common in cows, but it can also infect other animals and humans. It causes a patch of very itchy skin and can spread really easily. It is pretty common among people who work with animals, like farmers and vets. Luckily, you can test for this parasite by taking a little scraping from the itchy area (in my case on my arm), and looking under the microscope to see if the parasite is there. You can treat the infection with a medicated cream, and within a few weeks I was all cured! Did you know that you can also test for this type of parasite by shining an ultraviolet light on it? If it is Microsporum, it glows bright green!
