This is definitely possible – maybe one of your parents’ genes makes you more likely to be the kind of person who likes smoking? Or a gene you have makes it harder for you to lose weight?
The important thing to note is that while genes could give you these disadvantages, once people are around your age, we get to choose what we do with our bodies. If we really want to avoid smoking, we don’t have to! And if we want to stay fit and healthy, we can exercise, play sports and eat healthy food.
It’s certainly possible to get genes from your parents that aren’t ideal, but as you grow older, you become more responsible over your body and what ends up happening to it! 🙂
So, it depends what a bad gene is? You can inherit certain bits, most of which are good, and you will get a bit of mum and dad. One bad thing is that some illnesses run in the family, some only get passed down to girls and others to boys.
Some parents are tall and their children are tall, my dad is tall and my mum is short and I am middle height whereas my sister is much taller (and younger) than me! So some things are different.
