      I think the best scientist in the world is Professor Stephen Hawkins, an incredibly clever physicist, who has solved some of the greatest mysteries about our universe and about how time works. He will have used the wonderful work of Isaac Newton to make his amazing discoveries 🙂

      I have so many favourites but one of my top scientists is Marie Curie. She was one of the discoverers of radiation and worked very hard to be recognized as a serious scientist just because she was female in a time and a subject that was considered a mans world. She did it though, and was the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize! Well done Marie Curie!

      Hey!

      Well, I can think of a fair few scientists who can contend for the best scientist in the world. They all worked out different things, and thought up new inventions. Scientists can be explorers and inventors too!
      That is why I am choosing Thomas Edison, (one of the best!) as he invented so much during his lifetime. He invented lights and batteries, and cement!

      He is quoted as saying “Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration” and I agree with him totally! You cant be a genius if you don’r work for it!

      Have you ever heard of the Nobel Prize competition? It is one of the most important awards in science one can receive, and celebrates scientists around the world who have done amazing work! Sarah mentioned Marie Curie – Marie Curie won 2 Nobel Prizes!

      This year, the person who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine was a Japanese scientist called Yoshinori Ohsumi. In his work, Yoshinori studies DNA and he found parts of DNA that sometimes have mistakes in their structure and cause horrible diseases. Sometimes cells in the body eat themselves because the DNA in the cells tells the cells to act abnormally! Yoshinori has found out a lot about how this happens, and how to stop it so people don’t get diseases!

      Because he won this Nobel Prize this year, I think he technically is the best scientist in the world right now!
