Great question! When I was at school, I used to spend time at the weekends watching how my local vet did his job, and getting work experience at the practice. I really admired the work that he did, and how he used his skills to diagnose diseases and give the right treatments to help animals get better. I also admired how friendly and helpful he was with the owners of pets too, as working with people is a really important part of the job!

Spending time learning about being a vet with him and his colleagues really inspired me to one day so the same!

      Hey!

Good question! I think I admired all scientists as I was growing up. My teachers were my first inspiration as they taught me so much about science. Then, when I went to university I met a lecturer (the teachers there are called lecturers) who did work in coastal science and she helped me to realise that I could work in coastal science! I wish that I had known sooner! She was a lady scientist and helped me to see that I wanted to be a lady scientist too!

The person that I admired most was actually a fictional character in a TV show!

When I was 13, I watched a TV show called ‘Bones’ and it was about a scientist who found out about people through their bones in police cases. I do something very similar, only I look at bones in archaeology. If you give me a skeleton, I can tell you if the person who lived before was old or young, a man or a woman, whether they were healthy or not, where they came from, what they ate, and what they did for a living! All of this information, the TV show ‘Bones’ inspired me to do!

Are you inspired by anyone to become a scientist? What do you want to do when you’re older? 🙂

      Michael
