• Question: @ sarah have you ever worked at heysham power station?

      Yes I have, I go there quite often to help them with any problems they might have. Every few years they have what’s called an “outage” to do routine maintenance and all the power station is checked. Each day they are shut they lose millions of pounds profit, so it’s important to work as fast as possible so lots of people go there to help out. We work 12 hour shifts, 10 days in a row, then one day off, to try and finish as quickly as possible.
      If you live nearby then they have a visitors centre that you can go to have a look around. I highly recommend it!

      I was looking up Heysham online – and found something quite cool! Apparently 40 years ago, archaeologists dug up some buried skeletons near St. Patrick’s Chapel that were around 1,000 years old! The stone coffins they were buried in were not that fancy – so there’s a chance that these were not proper burials for people with power or money, but graves for regular people around the town and attended church.

      A further dig 20 years ago could not find any human bones, but they found lots of artifacts like pots and tools! These were dated to 12,000 years ago, making it one of the biggest sites that old in England and all of North Europe! Hopefully somebody decides to get a project together to dig some more around that part of Heysham, because it sounds like a great place to make more discoveries!
